THE ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA, FIREFIGHTER WHO took an accident victim’s severed foot home for her dogs to play with has resigned from the Fire-Rescue department.

The bizarre story, reported by Firegeezer HERE on Sept. 25, concerned a man whose lower leg was severed in a violent vehicle crash.  After he was extricated and transported, FF Cindy Economou took the leg portion back to the station and then called a family member to come pick it up.  She said that her intentions were to use it for her hobby of training cadaver-sniffing dogs.

At a 10 am press conference this morning, Fire Chief Ron Parrish announced that following the investigation of the incident and being presented with the findings, Economu resigned from the department after serving 14 years.

WPTV has the STORY.

Hopefully this will not end the investigation of this incident. She needs to have a criminal conviction on record so the state can revoke her EMS & fire certificates. I don’t care how long or well she served the public prior to this, she maned that man for life when she stole his limb from the site. He may not have had much of a chance to regain use of his leg, but her actions assured that he would become an amputee.

I cannot believe a firefighter would take a body part home to use in training of cadaver dogs. Total disregard for maintaing the dignity of the victim and integrity of the Fire Department. She should have resigned, and criminal charges should follow.

Pointing fingers and the “he said, she said” is a waste of time. She made the decision to remove a body part from an accident scene, a violation of OSHA which could slap the department with fines. However the entire moral aspect is what chaps my cheeks.

I am a retired ff/paramedic and never once felt the need to disrespect my department nor victims by acting selfishly. She is a blight on the department and they are better off with the likes of her.
