Has Anybody Seen Our Boat?

Comments

THE VAILS GATE FIRE DEPARTMENT in Orange County, New York, has lost its boat and they want it back.

One of their engines was responding to a rescue call on Aug. 30 with their inflatable rubber boat on the pumper.  While they were traveling down Rte. 32 in New Windsor, the boat flew off the back of the engine and landed in the middle of the roadway, unbeknownst to the firefighters.

An off-duty town policeman came by and found it, so he pulled it off to the side of the road and called the fire department.  But when they returned to get it, the boat and all its contents were gone.  The total value of the items is around $2,500 and the FD is asking anyone who knows about it to please give them a call.  It was still missing this past Thursday.

Uhh.. isn't it pretty much common sense, when property is found and identified, to wait with or safeguard said property until the owner or some other person who can assume responsibility takes it from you?

I'm not sure why the off-duty cop felt it was OK to leave a piece of FD equipment on the side of the road unattended?
