Comments Off

THE LIGHT AIRCRAFT THAT CRASHED INTO A NORTH LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, home yesterday (see early Firegeezer report HERE) was being flown by a well-experienced pilot who had 40 yrs. experience and was a certified flight instructor.

However, his home-built airplane only had 5 hours of flight time on it when he took off from the NLV Airport just after 6:30 am Friday and the airport authorities are concerned about FAA flight rules that permit “experimental” aircraft to fly in and out of a congested airport that is located in an urban neighborhood.

The pilot perished in the crash along with two of the home’s three residents.  The third occupant was not at home when the crash and fire occurred.

Because of the feared contamination from the aviation fuel that the plane was carrying, three other nearby homes were evacuated until the scene can be cleaned up.  Yesterday afternoon a demolition crew was brought in to tear down the rest of the house and remove it so that the affected ground can be dug out before the spilled fuel can spread beyond the site.
