FIREFIGHTERS IN AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND, WERE PREPARING for counter-protesters’ promised wave of false alarm calls in office buildings along a major city street today.
Yesterday a court gave the ok for a “Boobs On Bikes” parade of 100 porn stars on motorcycles along the aptly-named Queen Street. The Auckland City Council had sought an injunction to halt the parade which is part of the “Erotica Expo” organized by self-styled “porn king” Steve Crow.

Thousands of protesters were out in force to try and disrupt the event and they had forewarned the fire brigade that they would be pulling alarm boxes all along the parade route. They were hoping to create chaos by inducing the fire engines to respond to the box alarms. But the Fire Service officials said that they had put measures in place to prevent the false alarms.
The crowds of spectators were 10-deep in some areas along the parade route and thousands kept trying to block the roadway and prevent the parade of porn stars from progressing. One group preceded the parade carrying a large banner reading: “Pornography fuels sexual violence against women and children”.

Untold numbers of spectators held digital cameras and cell phones while some stood on phone booths, bus shelters and balconies over-looking Queen Street.

Work generally stopped as the parade went by.
