New Fire Chief For Wilmington, N. C.
THE CITY OF WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA, APPOINTED A NEW FIRE CHIEF WEDNESDAY. The city council announced that they have appointed Cecil “Buddy” Martinette, Jr. to head the department.
The Wilmington Star-News reports:
A lead 9/11 rescuer, Martinette wowed council members with a resume that put him tops among the field of nearly 50 applicants. Now the assistant county administrator in Hanover County, Va., Martinette was previously the fire chief for Lynchburg, Va. — a stint that coincided with perhaps his most impressive feat.
In 2001, he was called to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, leading search-and-rescue teams at the Pentagon for more than a week. In 1995, Martinette also responded to the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City.
He replacs former Chief Sam Hill who retired in March after 50 years service in the department. Read the full story HERE.
