Former Fire Chief Sentenced On Sex Charges
THE FORMER CHIEF OF THE COLEBROOK (CONNECTICUT) VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, John Boutin, was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday for attempting to arrange a sexual liasion with a 14-yr.-old boy who turned out to be a police undercover officer.
Boutin was snared in an internet chat room where he logged in under the name “ctfiredude” and sent the “boy” a picture of himself dressed in fire gear. Police said that he used the computer at the firehouse to send his internet messages.
Boutin worked for the state Department of Transportation as an inspector and showed up for the meeting at a Unionville restaurant driving his state-owned automobile. Shortly after his arrest, he resigned from both his job, where he had been employed since 1970, and the FD. He is married and has two children including a 13-yr.-old daughter.
The judge sentenced Boutin to two five-year prison terms, suspended after one year served, to run concurrently. He will also serve 10 years probation as a registered sex offender, which includes stipulations on his contact with children and where he can live and work.
