THE BAIL HEARING CONTINUED TODAY FOR NICHOLAS GIANQUITTI, the accused murderer of Cranston, Rhode Island, Fire Lieutenant James Pagano. (See Firegeezer story HERE and yesterday’s first update HERE.)
More testimony today from the prosecution has introduced two more turns into the story. Yesterday we learned that Pagano approached Gianquitti at Gianquitti’s front door and took a swing at him. It was then that the shot(s) were fired, not in Pagano’s front yard.
Today the 911 tape was played and the judge heard Gianquitti say on the tape that Pagano entered his house and shoved him down some interior stairs. It was then that he shot Pagano. Gianquitti’s voice on the 911 call says: “I’m in the right. He entered my home. He’s crazy.” When the dispatcher asks how many shots were fired, he tells her, “One. Yes, just one.”

The police detective who worked the case then testified. He said that there were two shots fired, not one nor three. He found two shell casings outside and he stated that he believes the shots were fired outside the house. Pagano was found in the driveway. Further, the detective said that one of the bullets missed and landed in the ground. But the one that struck Pagano entered in the left rear of his torso, indicative of him moving away from Gianquitti at the time.
The hearing was continued one more day until tomorrow at 2:00 pm. The only remaining witness is the coroner who was unable to attend today’s session. So far, the defense does not plan to call any witnesses.
