Retired Pumper Gets Recycled

THE CROCKER, MISSOURI, CITY COUNCIL HAS DECIDED to take a 46-yr.-old “parade piece” pumper and donate it to a local volunteer fire department that doesn’t have a servicable fire engine of its own anymore.

The 1962 fire engine was the first one that the city had bought “brand new” and has lately been used for ceremonial events.  But on the recommendation of the Fire Chief, the aldermen were told of the greater need of the nearby Raymondville VFD and suggested the donation.

The Waynesville Daily Guide has the full STORY.

Firegeezer notes:  I would expect a savvy collecter to step in and trade a more modern pumper to them in exchange for this jewel.  It’s a beautiful-looking pumper.

It’s sad to see dept’s like this still exisist in the U.S. with the untold hundreds of millions of FEMA/DHS monies going to major metro depts and the state of PA for apparatus that seldom ever leaves the station.

I happened across this website while looking for parts for my own 46 Ford pumper. I live in Crocker, MO , although I volonteer for another district. This truck is even better to see in person. I know know both the Chief of Crocker and the Chief of Raymondville. This truck will continue to be taken well cared of I’m sure. I agree, it is sad that there are still fire depts still struggling out there and the money doesn’t seem to go to the right places all the time. My Dept’s first out engine is a 78 Hendrickson with open jumpseats. There are alot of us(depts) out here making do with what we have. Our dept recently donated bunker gear to a dept that still had dirt floors in their station, so there is always somebody more in need. What I am gratefull for is the generousity that exists between depts here. This truck is a perfect example of that. Perhaps somebody will offer Raymondville a more updated apparatus in trade. It is a wonderfull truck.
