Well, I went and did it. I said that I was going to wait until the prices dropped, but in a way they did.
I’m talking about the new machines coming out that will duplicate vinyl records and audio cassettes directly onto CD’s. We’ve been talking a little bit about it lately and I’ve mentioned that there’s a fortune awaiting somebody who comes out with a practical recorder that will do this simply and effectively.
Just think of all those billions of home-made cassette recordings of the owner’s “favorites” collections. And for us Geezers, the old 33-1/3 LP record albums that were never re-released on CD.
There is what looks like a good machine being offered now by Crosley that is designed like an old-time table-top radio. I has the 3-speed turntable that will play all the old records as well as a cassette player. Supposedly you can just insert any of them and hit the Record button and it will dupe the tapes or records onto the CD-R. Just to be on the safe side, I’m going to stop by Radio Shack and see if I can get a good-quality phonograph needle to use, though.

This pioneering model recorder retails in a lot of online stores now for $399 (Yeah…that’s the same as $400). But this catalog retailer that I am buying from was selling it for $349. Still a little high, but the other day they sent out an email flyer – everything in the catalog gets an extra 20% off for two days only. That brought it down to $280. Now we’re talking.
So I ordered it Friday and I’m hoping it will arrive later this week. As soon as I give it a test drive, I’ll write up a review for you. Let’s hope it really works.
Now…let’s hope our apparatus really works. Let’s get it checked out and I’ll go start the coffee.
