Carl Norman, a geologist from the University of Houston said, “This thing may be stable any day, or it may be collapsing for six months, but it’ll be a slow process and people will have warning. It could double in size.”
Liberty County Fire Marshal Jim Wilson estimated that on Thursday morning, the hole was about 150 feet deep, 600 yards wide and 200 yards long.
Some of the local people have nicknamed the crater “Sinkhole de Mayo.”
The Beaumont Enterprise has a nice background story today HERE.
