Missing Word Extends Open Period For Chief’s Job Applicants

FOR LACK OF A COMPETENT PROOFREADER, Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, is having to extend the deadline for Fire Chief applicants.

The hiring announcement that had been published left out a key word from the job description.  The error omitted the word “preferred” after the description of educational requirements for candidates. Rather than stating that the administration would like a fire chief with a bachelor’s degree in public administration and an associate’s degree in fire science, the description read as if both degrees were necessities.

The closing date for applicants has been extended to May 16.  So far more than 20 people throughout the U. S. and Canada have submitted applications.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune has the full STORY.
