THE MASSIVE DOWNTOWN FIRE IN JOHNSTOWN, NEW YORK, Thursday (Firegeezer REPORT) has been preliminarily judged an accident.

The spectacular blaze that occupied more than 15 fire departments from three counties destroyed 3 large mill buildings and a fourth structure.  Several dozen neighboring homes also suffered fire damage to their roofs from flying embers carried by the high winds that were blowing at the time.

Fire officials say that a contractor’s crew doing salvage work in one of the buildings accidentally started the fire when a torch used for cutting metal sent out the initial spark.
