Fired Firesetting Firefighter Drops Suit

Comments Off

LAST MONTH WE REPORTED (HERE) ON THE ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, firefighter who was suing the city to get her job back after being dismissed in April of last year.

Mary Wolski was Erie FD’s first female firefighter when she was hired in 1997.  In December of 2006, while living in her father’s house, she disabled the smoke detectors and started a fire in the house in what was determined to be a suicide attempt.

After being terminated last year, she appealed to the city’s Civil Service commission to get her job back and she was rebuffed.  Last month she appealed the decision to the Erie County Court and that led to the public disclosure of the case.

Last week she decided to drop the appeal and let the decision stand.

The Erie Times-News REPORTS:

City Solicitor Greg Karle said there was no settlement reached in the dispute between the firefighter, Mary Wolski, and the city.

“For reasons … known to Mary, she just chose to withdraw the appeal,” Karle said.

Wolski’s lawyer, Paul Susko, could not be reached for comment.
