AFTER PHONING IN TWO HOAX FIRE CALLS IN TWO DAYS, a 14-yr.-old boy was arrested in Cheshire, England, today.
On both occasions, last Friday and Saturday, the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Dept. dispatched full alarms to reports of houses on fire only to discover that they were prank calls. The phone calls were made from a cell phone so that the location of the caller couldn’t be pinpointed. But the dispatchers did retrieve the phone number.

The police then made the dispatch tapes public and called for help from the citizens in identifying the boy’s voice. After a tip yesterday the police were able to find the miscreant and arrested him today.

The Cheshire police issued the following statement:
“A 14 year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of a series of malicious phone calls. He has been helping police with their enquiries throughout the day and has been bailed pending further enquiries.”
The nearby Merseyside Fire and Rescue Department has made agreements with local phone companies to have cell phone service permanently disabled for phones used to make hoax calls. Since 2004 they have had 162 phones cut off and this year they’ve disconnected 26 so far.
