A FIRE STARTED SHORTLY AFTER 7 AM THIS MORNING in a back room of the Leaks and Sons Funeral Home in Chicago’s South Side.

A spokesman in the funeral home said that the fire, which was inside, started near the roof and that it was still “very smokey” inside a half-hour after it was extinguished.  A Fire Dept. Media Affairs spokeswoman said that the building sustained “major damage,” but the funeral home is still open and operating.  They will continue with three of today’s five planned services.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
