YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AN APARTMENT FIRE WAS REPORTED at 2:20 in the La Brea neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

The spectacular blaze consumed the center section of a large 2-story building and brought many spectators while closing the streets in the area.  No injuries have been reported.

The 150 firefighters initiated a containment defense of the fire which was well underway in the attic and roof area of the building and threatening the exposures on sides B and D.  Trench cuts were ordered immediately and are credited with much of the successful knock-down that was reported at 3:45.

The cause of the fire is determined to be from workers sweating pipe in the attic space.
