A 16-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy and a five-year-old boy were found outside the home when firefighters arrived. Police say they were taken to the hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns. Police described the surviving children as in “guarded” condition.

Unofficially, the dead were Diane Simpson, 35, her eight-year-old daughter and four-year-old son.  The home is owned by the Toronto Community Housing Agency and was equipped with hard-wired smoke detectors that are inspected annually.

Fire department District Chief Stephan Powell said “it was a very, very hot fire.”  They report that on arrival the FD found the entire house fully involved with flames coming out of the 2nd floor windows.  The homes in the block have full firewalls and the fire was contained to the one house.
