Teens Steal Two Fire Trucks Out Of Station

IN LAPORTE COUNTY, INDIANA, (near South Bend) at least two and possibly three people broke into the Center Township Vol. Fire Dept. station early yesterday morning.

After first fitting themselves up  with boots, pants, coats and helmets off the rack, they started up a pumper and a utilitly truck and drove off, lights and sirens on full.

As they were just leaving, a sheriff’s deputy on patrol saw them and asked the dispatcher where the fire was.  When he was told that there wasn’t any fire, he followed the trucks and found them in the local cemetery.  The pumper was stuck in soft ground and the 17-yr.-old thief had too much difficulty running away while wearing the turnouts and was caught easily.
