The county has been actively monitoring the department’s financial activities for some time and withheld funding back in 2004.  Recently some citizens once again complained about suspect spending practices and the county had the FD audited.

Following the results, the Tennessee Attorney General’s office had asked for a temporary restraining order against the southern Rutherford County department to cease all activities.  A judge will determine whether the Fosterville department should be permanently dissolved. In that event, a court-appointed liaison, Jeanne Bryant, would handle the assets of the nonprofit, which includes fire equipment and two stations.
