Carmel Valley Fire Captain Eric Ulwelling, who along with a deputy sheriff was the first to arrive at the Grimeses’ house after the shooting, said he saw (the accused) standing motionless at the scene with a “vacant stare.”
When he saw Elizabeth Grimes near the boulder, Ulwelling said she was curled on the ground. When he asked who shot her, Elizabeth Grimes told him Kenney did.
