New Fire Engine Painted In College Team Colors

IN GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, THE BIG Kahuna in town is the East Carolina University.  When the city ordered a new pumper for Engine Co. 1, they decided to show their appreciation for the role that ECU plays in the community by having the new $357,000 pumper painted in purple and gold, the ECU Pirates’ team colors.

The new engine is a Pierce Enforcer, 1,500 gpm with a Husky 12 foam system.  When it was delivered to the city, it was driven into town late at night under cover of darkness because the citizens hadn’t been told that they were getting a purple fire engine.  It will be formally introduced to the public today and is scheduled to participate in tomorrow’s ECU Homecoming parade.
