FOR YEARS THE ALLEN, TEXAS, FIRE DEPARTMENT was billing a set fee for ambulance services provided and doing the collecting by hiring a lady who wrote out the bills and mailed them out.
Recently the FD contracted with a commercial billing agency who showed them that by increasing the basic fee and then forgiving all the debt greater than the insurance carriers paid, the amount of funds collected would actually increase dramatically.
