FBI Joins Arson Investigation In So. Cal.

Comments Off

SPECIAL FBI EVIDENCE-GATHERING TEAMS have joined in the arson investigations in San Diego and Orange Counties.  An FBI spokesman says that they recovered materials they hoped would identify the source of the fires that have burned for four days.  Also, correcting an earlier report from a law enforcement official, they said that they have not searched any houses.

Easing winds are giving firefighters hope that they might be able to gain ground against the wildfires. The highest sustained winds were clocked at 36 miles-per-hour today down from gusts of 100 miles-per-hour earlier in the week. Forecasters say cooling sea breezes will eventually follow.

The fires have so far destroyed 1,500 homes and damaged thousands more.  Five deaths have been attributed to the fires along with injuries to 24 firefighters, four seriously, and two dozen civilians.
