The Jones Odell Motor Bodies plant was not sprinklered, a deficiency that fire investigators say could have saved the business. It is one of the oldest and largest coach-building businesses in New Zealand.
Unfortunately for the Fire Brigade, Jones Odell was just a couple of weeks away from delivering a NZ$450,000 state-of-the-art mobile command vehicle to the Brigade. It was the first of 18 to be built for the national fire service.
