It’s a really quiet Sunday morning around here. Nobody turned a wheel all night. We’ll see if things stay calm and low-key all day, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
Friday morning, when those two vacant houses blew up in Irvington, New Jersey, a fascinating side story came out of there. The house next door that was under construction had several workers inside it and it was demolished also.
Apparently, one of the workers was buried under the debris for quite a while and there was a lag time while the people outside were trying to get a head count and see if anyone was missing. And you know how chaotic that can be. People were just showing up for work and nobody really knows for certain who was inside at any given moment in the first place. And then people will sometimes take off after they escape something like that.
Well, this fellow I’m referring to was buried for a while without hearing any indication that rescue crews were getting close to finding him. So he was able to move enough to get his cell phone out of his pocket and call his boss and report in. The word immediately got out to the crews on scene and they learned who was missing and approx. where he could be found. All because he, a) carried a cell phone, and b) left it turned on.

You know, half-a-dozen years ago that wouldn’t have happened. Isn’t technology wonderful? When I go out to get my Sunday newspapers, I think I’ll take my cell phone with me. And turn it on.
Ok, guys…let’s get the equipment checked out. I’ll get the coffee pot going.
