Downtown Fire In Medicine Hat
THE SMALL TOWN OF MEDICINE HAT, ALBERTA, suffered a serious fire yesterday morning in the heart of its business district.
The Canadian Press Service reports:
A three-alarm fire has destroyed five businesses in Medicine Hat’s downtown core. Fire Chief Garry Mauch says the fire started early Wednesday morning in either a book store or a restaurant. Damage is estimated at $5-million.
No one was in the burned buildings and no injuries were reported. It took more than 40 firefighters about eight hours to contain the fire.
Chief Mauch said the blaze spread quickly in the old buildings through concealed spaces, floors, basements and roof cavities.
