Keep The Phones Quiet

Comments Off

ONE OF THE VERY FEW THINGS THAT CONGRESS has done right lately was the establishment of the “Do Not Call” list to keep the obnoxious tele-marketers from bothering you.

Before they set up the registry in June of 2003 I was getting 6 to 8 calls every evening from those cretins.  But within days, literally, of signing up it has stopped completely.  Oh, what a relief that was.

But for some reason it was established with a 5-yr. expiration time requiring everybody to sign up again and renew their registration.  That five years is up next year, if you got in at the beginning.  (it’s 5 years from when you signed up, not from when it was established)

But we may be in luck.  A Pennsylvania congressman, Rep. Mike Doyle, says people should not be forced to re-register to keep telemarketers at bay. Doyle introduced legislation this week, with bipartisan support, to make registrations permanent.  It should get an easy passage.
