THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION in Washington, D. C. has just sent us a hiring announcement for an EMS-related opening in Washington.
The job title is Highway Safety Specialist and the salary range is $46,041 to $59,852. (not bad…..ed.)
The job summary says in part:
This position serves in the Office of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Research and Program Development (RPD) and reports to the Office Director. The Office has national responsibility for developing, promoting, implementing, and evaluating new programs, providing technical assistance, guidance and support, and coordinating program activities relative to statewide EMS systems, EMS research, and national education standards.
The Highway Safety Specialist is expected to develop, manage, and implement projects that demonstrate successful strategies for enhancing emergency medical services. With assistance from the Office Director, you will be expected to:
1) provide staff support and assistance for the Federal Interagency Committee on EMS;
2) provide staff support and assistance for national level advisory council and committees;
3) assist with development of a national EMS strategic plan;
4) provide consultation and technical assistance to NHTSA Regions, States, and communities on EMS issues; and
5) identify innovative solutions to emergency medical services challenges.
The qualifications don’t say anything about needing any EMS certification, but I’m sure that whoever gets the job will have it along with experience.
