Palo Alto “Saving Money” By Shutting Down Firehouse

THE PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA CITY COUNCIL voted Monday to close Fire Station 8 in order to avoid raising the annual budget.  The station was built in the Foothills area after a devastating fire destroyed many homes in 1985.  This year’s woodland fire load is three times the normal because of the drought combined with the City’s recent prohibition of controlled burns to reduce fuel.

The Palo Alto Daily News reports here.
