New Missouri state law throws fire and police overtime rules into turmoil

FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENTS THAT DON’T HAVE formal labor contracts with their employees are in a quandry.  A new law passed by the state legislature concerning minimum wage requirements failed to include the exemptions that are usually provided for the unusual shift-work requirements of public safety workers.  There is currently a joint lawsuit filed on behalf of several smaller jurisdictions to stay the new law as it affects fire and police.  If the lawsuit fails, dozens of small towns will be in a financially untenable situation.

Firegeezer says:  Once again we have a situation where a bunch of grandstanding politicians went headline-hunting without first learning what the consequences of their action would be.
