You can only die in the approved manner

A TEXAS DEATH-ROW INMATE tried to cheat the system by setting a fire in his cell.  It didn’t work.

Promotional opportunities in Colorado

PLAYING GOLF WITH SOMEONE ELSE’S WIFE while you’re on the clock is never a wise decision…..even if you’re the fire chief.  It just might end up on her husband’s website.

Fire, police befuddled by city’s jumbled addresses

IT LOOKS LIKE BRUNSWICK COUNTY needs a little stronger leadership.  I can see how the problem slowly developed over the years, but it shouldn’t have.

“Setting a flashing light in your front window when 911 has been dialed helps emergency personnel locate your home.”  Sure….everybody’s got one of those.

I.A.F.C.: A potential noise-related problem with digital portable radios

The International Assoc. of Fire Chiefs has issued notice alerting departments that firefighters have experienced unintelligible audio transmissions when using digital portables in close proximity to devices such as PASS alarms, low-pressure alarms on SCBA’s, and others.

They are setting up a study committee and asking for input from the field if you have experienced any of these problems.

Is Anheuser-Busch finally seeing the light?

40-SOME YEARS AGO, A-B DID A TERRIBLE THING to their beers.  They started using rice in place of some of the barley malt in their brewing process.  It was always my opinion that they did this in order to effectively kill the true beer taste so that they could market the product to people who don’t like beer.

They recently announced that they are going to restore the Michelob brand to its original recipe - no rice.  Maybe the 16% drop in sales had something to do with it.  And maybe we’ll get a drinkable beer from them again.

Georgia’s most elusive maiden runs back into the news

DO YOU REMEMBER THE “RUNAWAY BRIDE” who left her hapless groom and the 45 bridesmaids milling about the church?  Well, the Albuquerque Police Dept. is using their memorable moment of fame with her for an innovative recruiting poster.  Jennifer’s fame just keeps going and going…….

(wow!  Has it been two years already?)

The world’s biggest ever credit card scam

JUST BREAKING IN THE LAST 24 HOURS.  This Scottish newspaper calls the chain “TK Maxx”, but I’m sure they’re talking about “T J Maxx.”  More than 47 million credit card numbers have been stolen over the past two years.  If you have a teenage daughter (or a wife who’s still trying to be one), then you want to read this carefully.

My Lucky Day

YES, IT IS A LUCKY DAY when the ATM gives me used currency instead of that new stuff.  I usually visit the ATM about twice a month to replenish my walking-around  money.  I think ATM’s are really neat….you just face the wall for a minute and then someone passes money out through a little hole.  You take it and git.

Most of the time they pass me a load of brand new bills that make a stack about 1/64th of an inch thick and all stick to each other.  I have to take them home and pry them apart, then crinkle them all up before smoothing them back out to re-stack.  But about once every 5 or 6 months I get used currency….all ready to spend.  And I just feel so good when that happens.

Now I can understand why there would be some times when the machine would be stocked with new bills.  But why are they almost always packed with those things?  Does anybody know why they do this?

Houston firefighters use thermal imaging cameras

THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE REPORTS that firefighters used their newly-purchased themal imaging cameras in last evening’s fatal high-rise fire.

AM1290 radio has video here.

Also, a good transcription of the search for the missing Captain who had run out of air here.  No mention of any PASS alarms or R.I.T.
